The Coober Pedy Opal Festival celebrates the end of a long hot summer and the commencement of what many hope is a very prosperous opal mining season.

Coober Pedy, Opal Capital of the World, not only produces an estimated 80% of the worlds opal, it boasts over 45 different nationalities and is one of the most multicultural towns in Australia.

The Opal Capital of the World is also unique for its underground living lifestyle and famous landscapes featured in many films.

The Opal Festival celebrates all these features and is the biggest local event of the year.

This years festival is set to once again bring the colour and festival atmosphere to Coober Pedy. The weekend will kick off with the Opal Festival Ball at the Desert Cave with the Flaming Sambuccas. Saturdays attractions will include a street parade, Volleyball competition, sumo suits, kids fun tent, pony rides and whip cracking comedy with The Crackup Sisters , . Xtreme Trials motorbike trials show returns, tower of terror, fireworks, music by the Flaming Sambuccas, food and drinks and Arts and Crafts. Scenic flights are available again all Easter weekend with Wrightsair.

The link appears to work fine for me. The link should open a .pdf brochure about other Opal Events around Australia. You may want to have a look at the other events page (use the “Other Events” menu item at the top of the page) which shows the other events on in Coober Pedy on the Opal Festival weekend.

Hope you have a great trip and really enjoy your time in Coober Pedy and at the Opal Festival.
